expression patterns of vegf and flk-1 in human endometrium during the menstrual cycle
Authors
abstract
background: the vegf is essential in the process of tissue remodeling and angiogenesis. limited data is available on the expression and regulation of vegf and its receptors in the human endometrium. the aim of this study was evaluation of expression patterns of vegf and flk-1 in human endometrium during the menstrual cycle. methods: sixty paraffin-embedded blocks of endometrial tissues from the patients with normal menstrual cycles were obtained. tissue samples were assembled into tissue microarray slides and classified by histological dating into five phases: the proliferative (n=14), peri-ovulatory (n=9), early-secretory (n=12), mid-secretory (n=11) and late-secretory (n=14) phases. immunohistochemical staining was performed using vegf or flk-1 monoclonal antibodies. the intensity of immunostain-ing was evaluated by the semi-quantitative scoring method (hscore). kruskal-wallis one-way analysis of variance and scheff’s post-hoc test were used for statistical analysis. a p-value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. results: vegf and flk-1 were expressed in the three components of the endometrium at various phases of the menstrual cycle. in the stroma, the expression of vegf varied among the phases (p<0.05). the expression of flk-1 in the luminal and glandular epithelium revealed stronger intensity of immunostaining as compared with the stroma at the different phases (p<0.05). the level of flk-1 expression also showed significant differences among the phases in the glandular epithelium with greatest expression at late-secretory phase (p<0.05). conclusion: temporal and spatial distribution of vegf and flk-1 expression in the three components of human endometrium during menstrual cycle suggests the functional role of angiogenesis in the remodeling process of endometrial tissue.

full textP-217: Expression Analysis of The Histone Variant H2A.Z in Endometrium Tissue during The Menstrual Cycle
Background: The human endometrium undergoes cyclical changes including proliferation, differentiation, tissue breakdown and shedding (menstruation) throughout a woman’s reproductive life. The postovulatory rise in ovarian progestrone induces profound remodeling in chromatin structure of cells, and consequently differentiation of estradiol-primed endometrium. This change is crucial for embryo im...
full textThioredoxin expression in the human endometrium during the menstrual cycle.
Human thioredoxin, a cellular disulphide reducing protein, is known to be secreted by some types of cells and to display unique extracellular activities including modulation of cytokine actions and protection of the cell against damage from oxidative stress. This study has been undertaken to investigate the pattern of expression and tissue distribution of thioredoxin in human endometrium during...
full textExpression of cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 in the baboon endometrium during the menstrual cycle and pregnancy.
Cyclooxygenase (COX) is the rate-limiting enzyme in the biosynthesis of PGs. PGs together with ovarian steroids play important regulatory roles in the establishment and maintenance of pregnancy in a number of different species. In the primate, little is known about the role of PGs in these processes. In this study, the uterine expression of COX-1 and COX-2 throughout the menstrual cycle [late f...
full textO-31: Epigenetic Aberration of HOXA10 Gene in Human Endometrium throughout The Menstrual Cycle in Endometriosis
Background: Epigenetic aberration such as DNA methylation and histone modifications appear to be involved in various diseases such as Endometriosis. Here, we investigated the epigenetic regulation of HOXA10 promoter, as a crucial gene, responsible for uterine organogenesis, functional endometrial differentiation and endometrial receptivity, and its correlation with mRNA expression of this gene ...
full textLocalization of fibrillin-1 in human endometrium and decidua during the menstrual cycle and pregnancy.
We have examined the existence and distribution of fibrillin-1 within the endometrium and decidua to ascertain the effect of decidualization upon its synthesis, and its relationship to other extracellular matrix proteins. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues were stained using monoclonal antibodies to collagen IV, elastin, fibrillin-1 and laminin, by immunocytochemistry. Fibrillin-1 was pr...
